Combat in Diablo IV

Diablo IV is a fast-paced action RPG where combat takes center stage. Players use basic attacks, skills, and special abilities to defeat enemies. A key component is being aware of your surroundings as you fight through hordes. In Vessel of Hatred, a new class called the Spiritborn is introduced. Unlike the standard classes like Druid, Necromancer, Rogue, Sorceress, and Barbarian, Spiritborns rely on four Spirit Guardians: Eagle (lightning, mobility), Gorilla (survivability, physical damage), Jaguar (high DPS, fire), and Centipede (poison, lifesteal). Each has unique color-coded abilities that can be enhanced via the Spiritborn Skill Tree. Customizing your Spiritborn involves blending the power of different Spirits to suit your playstyle. Don’t forget to leverage skill synergies and use the Paragon Board for even greater endgame power.

World Tier and Sanctuary Exploration

Once you’ve selected your class, you’ll choose between World Tier 1 to 4. These tiers range in difficulty, offering progressively more challenging enemies but better rewards such as XP and gold. World Tier 1 is designed for players between levels 1-50. As you explore Sanctuary, you’ll unlock World Tier Statues in Kyovashad to switch between tiers as you progress. The new region of Nahantu adds to the vast world of Sanctuary, with cities providing vendors for selling, buying, and crafting. Travel quickly through Waypoints, which are bright blue markers on your map, allowing you to fast travel between regions. Remember, Town Portals can quickly bring you back to town to manage loot, but they close once you leave.

Gear and Loot

Loot and gear are a central part of Diablo IV’s appeal. Players can find various items that improve stats and abilities, including weapons, armor, and jewelry. Weapons are designed to increase damage output, while armor enhances defense and resistance. Jewelry adds unique buffs, such as increasing critical hit chance. Be cautious about upgrading gear early; it's best to wait until you’re at least level 50. The game also introduces a Runeword System where players combine Ritual and Invocation Runes to unlock powerful effects on their gear. Always keep an eye out for Legendary Aspects that boost abilities or add unique utilities to your equipment, which can be transferred between items.

Runes and Gems

The Runeword system in Vessel of Hatred enhances your gear further, allowing Ritual Runes to generate resources based on your actions, while Invocation Runes consume those resources for powerful effects. Diablo IV also introduces Legendary Aspects, which are special bonuses categorized into defensive, offensive, resource, and mobility enhancements. These can be extracted from gear or found in specific dungeons. Gems, which are primarily found in Ore Veins or rocky terrains, further enhance your gear, offering bonuses based on your preferred playstyle. You can even unsocket and upgrade gems as you progress, allowing you to continually improve your build. Gems and runes provide endless opportunities to tailor your character’s strengths.

Mercenaries and Pets

Mercenaries are a great addition in Vessel of Hatred, offering assistance during combat. Each mercenary has unique abilities and can grow stronger through experience. Mercenaries help complement your playstyle—whether you need additional damage output, healing, or support. Pets, while not combat-ready, offer valuable help by collecting gold and resources automatically. This can save you time during missions and allow you to focus on battling enemies. Be sure to pick a mercenary and pet that best suit your approach to combat, whether you prefer a more aggressive style or a defensive, strategic approach. The right combination of companions can make a huge difference in your journey.

Levelling and Progression

Progressing through Diablo IV involves leveling up your character, unlocking new abilities, and improving core stats. Players can earn XP by completing a variety of tasks, including the main storyline, side quests, and world events. Dungeons and strongholds are key areas for farming loot and XP, making them crucial for advancement. Focusing on the main storyline is the fastest way to level up, but side quests and events provide additional rewards that shouldn’t be overlooked. Keep an eye out for Altars of Lilith, which offer passive stat boosts when discovered. Campfires found throughout the world provide XP boosts when killing monsters nearby, helping you level up faster.
