Choosing Your First Champion
You can select any of the four champions that are available, and they are all rare three-star champions that have the potential to become powerful late-game powerhouses. All of them possess the "Magic" affinity, which will be explained later, so their main differences are in their stats and attack abilities. It is recommended that you choose a champion whose play style is best suited to you, as this will help you make the most of their abilities. However, if you make a mistake and choose the wrong hero, you can always summon a different one later on.
As with any other RPGs, the four champions each fit into their own visual archetypes.
- Elhain is the typical elf archer with a high chance of landing critical hits.
- Kael is a magician with powerful AoE spells.
- Galek is the traditional orc berserker who deals high damage and inflicts debuffs with each attack.
- Finally, Athel is a paladin with well-balanced stats and the ability to both debuff and self-buff.
Game Modes
Raid: Shadow Legends offers a wide range of game modes that allow you to acquire essential currencies to upgrade your Champions. Here's a breakdown of the various modes:
- Campaign: This is the main story mode, where you progress through a series of increasingly challenging stages to free Teleria from the shadows.
- Dungeons: In each Dungeon, you face two waves of enemies before confronting a tougher boss.
- Faction Wars: This mode requires you to choose a specific Crypt and battle your way through multiple stages.
- Clan Boss: To access this mode, you need to join a Clan and acquire a Clan Boss key.
- Arena: This is where you can engage in player versus player battles and receive rewards for your victories.
It's important to note that Campaign mode is the best place to start, until you have a good selection of Champions with upgraded abilities.
CLAN CHOICE & The affinity system
A lot of players might feel enthusiastic to join a Clan in RAID: Shadow Legends and quickly hop into any Clan that they find. Even though the benefits of joining a Clan can be attractive, it is advisable to wait until you have a good understanding of the community. It is better to look for a Clan whose members are willing to play alongside you or provide support to new players.
As you explore the champions in the game, you'll observe that each of them possesses an affinity. These affinities serve as a basic indicator of their advantages and disadvantages compared to other affinities, similar to the concept of rock, paper, scissors. Here's a breakdown of what the affinities indicate:
- Magic (Blue): Dominant over Spirit, vulnerable to Force
- Spirit (Green): Dominant over Force, vulnerable to Magic
- Force (Red): Dominant over Magic, vulnerable to Spirit
- Void (Purple): No superior or inferior affinity.
Champion shards
Champions are crucial in Raid: Shadow Legends, as you gather a formidable team of characters to battle against fierce opponents. Initially, you'll start with two Champions, but you can obtain more through Shards at the Portal. The Shards increase your chances of acquiring Champions of different potential quality levels:
- Mystery Shard: Common, Uncommon, Rare
- Ancient Shard: Rare, Epic, Legendary
- Void Shard: Rare, Epic, Legendary
- Sacred Shard: Epic, Legendary
Focus less on Common Champions at the start of the game. Invest in Void, Epic, or Legendary Champions instead. You can also utilize Fusion, which combines four specific Champions into a new one with a higher rarity. However, it's crucial to hold onto Epic or Legendary Champions, and refrain from fusing any cards that you only have one copy of.

Apart from grinding, the most effective way to acquire materials and unlock items in RAID: Shadow Legends is to collect login bonuses regularly.
