THE CIRCLE IS ALL THAT MATTERS
One of the most important Fortnite tips is to always be aware of the circle, always shrinking in size, always ready to swallow you. Every strategic decision should be made with your proximity relative to the eye of the storm in mind.
Already in the circle once the timer starts ticking down? Great – pay attention to the way in which it is shrinking. Will you be outside it shortly?
If you are close to the storm and the safe zone is a far away, getting there is your priority. If you spot another play, and you cannot defeat them sharpish – get past them. Choose your battles wisely. For heaven’s sake don’t get into a protracted scrap: you might win some pride but that is worth nothing when you are dead.
BE AWARE OF DESTRUCTIBLE COVER
When taking cover in Fortnite, always remember that all cover is destructible. Do not trust your cover at all times. Always have a contingency plan or a viable, easily-accessible escape route for when things inevitably go tits up. This means you always have to think one step ahead.
BUT! When you’re in possession of a rocket or grenade launcher, do not forget you can blow other cover up. You can level any type of cover with these two weapons. If you have one of these weapons, don’t forget: If it moves or if you think something moves behind cover, Smoke ‘em out.
DO NOT HEAD FOR THE LOOT OF YOUR KILLS RIGHT AWAY
It’s always tempting to dive in head-first to the loot you get from one of your kills. As in every battle royale game, always be on your guard. Firefights always attract attention from other players or squads nearby. Always heal up and wait a bit longer before looting your kills. If you do not heal up and loot right away you will be an easy target. If the battle is lasting for a longer time (say 1 or 2 minutes +) we advise you to use the loot from your enemies as bait for other squads. A lot of players can’t resist the temptation and will go for the loot after which you can shoot them and double up. Also, when looting yourself, build around yourself so you can easily swap out any gear.
Be A Team
Teamwork makes the dream work. At least in a team battle, that is. Keep in touch with your teammates, ideally by voice chat. Let them know where you are and what weapons you've got or are looking for. Let them know if you spot an enemy nearby, and discuss whether or not you want to engage. Communication and teamwork will pave the way to a Victory Royale, which is even more special when shared with friends. Yes, even if those friends are complete strangers.
